The 146SUMMERDANCE Emerges From a 10-Month, $5 Million Refit

This full-scale refit marks the fourth collaboration with longtime Trinity owners and has transformed this classic yacht with a refined, transitional design intended to suit both private and charter use.

Maintaining and refurbishing the original woodwork was a key factor of the refit's brief.

For longtime Trinity owners Jim and Sharon Mattei, SUMMERDANCE marks their fourth collaboration with Bonville Associates. Their vision was to restore the yacht’s pedigree elegance while introducing a contemporary, transitional design suited for both family cruising and selective charter. The result is a yacht that remains true to her heritage yet feels entirely current, combining the warmth of Trinity’s signature rich woodwork with a fresh palette of coastal whites, blues, and refined neutrals.

Inside, SUMMERDANCE has been refreshed from stem to stern. On the main deck, Bonville Associates preserved the yacht’s African cherrywood joinery, carefully refinished to a soft satin luster and paired with new stonework, cabinetry, and lighting. The salon and dining area feature bespoke furnishings, hidden wine coolers, plentiful storage, and a pop-up television, creating a relaxed yet polished environment for entertaining. Forward, the full-beam on-deck master suite was completely renewed with new built-ins, wall coverings, and custom furnishings to create a serene retreat with ample storage.

Special attention was paid to the main staircase, where the original wrought-iron detailing was replaced with more modern stainless steel design.

The lower deck accommodates four additional staterooms—two king VIPs, one queen, and one twin with Pullmans—all refitted with new soft goods, wall finishes, window shutters, and built-in storage. While much of the intricate detailing in the woodwork has been refinished, some more dated elements, such as the decorative finials at the foot of the guest beds, were removed. Each cabin includes thoughtful amenities such as writing desks with new chairs, mini fridges, and walk-in wardrobes, enhancing comfort for private and charter guests alike.

The skylounge underwent one of the most striking transformations. Here, the original ceiling canvas map was replaced with a custom overhead treatment that complements the original design of the bar, while stained-glass cabinet doors were exchanged for sleek wooden panels. This bright, welcoming lounge now offers sweeping views, generous seating, and a full bar, making it equally ideal for family relaxation or social gatherings. In fact, family gatherings were an important aspect of the brief, and the upholstery and carpeting throughout feature durable and stain-resistant fabrics.

SUMMERDANCE’s outdoor areas remain a major highlight, from the bridge-deck aft dining for ten to the sundeck’s Jacuzzi, sunpads, loungers, and wet bar with TV and optional shade. Mechanically, the yacht has completed her full 20-year ABS survey, with major overhauls of her Caterpillar 3512B main engines, rebuilt Northern Lights generators, serviced Quantum QC-1500 zero-speed stabilizers, and a new bridge electronics suite featuring Starlink internet and an Atlas shore-power converter.

Exterior refinements include a complete Awlgrip paint job in Matterhorn White with a navy blue hull, new teak decking, updated exterior upholstery, and polished stainless trim.

“Every detail of SUMMERDANCE was guided by respect for her pedigree and an understanding of how modern owners live aboard today,” said Lauren Bonville of Bonville Associates. “Our goal was to preserve her soul while delivering a yacht that feels effortless, elegant, and ready for years of adventure.”
